Answers:

Q. What is MMLan?
A. MMLan is a Bring Your Own Computer (BYOC) Lan event run by members of MM. We ran the first one in July 2005 as a way for clan members and friends to meet up and play games in person. Over time the numbers have increased but the idea of a fun and varied LAN event remains.

Up

Q. How Many People Will Be There?

Up

Q. How Do I Sign Up?
A. Signups are open now, have a look Here.
Up

Q. Do I Need to Signup In Advance or Can I Just Turn Up?
A. We won't allow entry to anyone who hasn't signed up before the event. This is so we know how many people to expect and also to help with security.
Up

Q. Can My Whole Clan Come?
A. Absolutely, but they must sign up individually. We'll arrange the seating plan so you're all sitting together.
Up

Q. When Does It Start? How Early Can I arrive?
A. The LAN runs from 4pm on Friday to 11am on the Monday. They'll be people around from 2pm on the Friday if you want to arrive early but don't expect everything to be up and running until the evening. Please let us know in advance if you intend to arrive early.
Up

Q. Is there a Net Connection?
A. We hope to have an 8Mb ADSL installed. This will be fine for light use Eg checking emails, web browsing, MSN, IRC etc. It will also allow a few people to play games on external servers (EG WoW) but we can't guarantee how good the experience will be. Being a LAN event, it makes more sense to play with people sitting next to you rather than 100s of miles away!
Up

Q. What games will be played?
A. Anything you want and can persuade other people to join in! Some recent favourites include Team Fortress 2, GRID, Left4Dead 2, FlatOut Ultimate Carnage and Altitude. They'll be a post on the forums in the run up to the event with suggestions for big games and mini tournaments.

Q. What Will I Need to Bring?

Joystick/Game Pads
Headphones (NOTE: No speakers are permitted at MMlan events)
Mains adaptor (Preferably with surge protection) - enough for your PC & monitor

Q. What's the Security Like? Am I ok to leave my PC alone?
A. We take security seriously (all our kit is there too!) but ultimately you're responsible for your own stuff. They'll be CCTV covering the main area and exits, everyone there will have signed up in advance and provided a home address. That said, we don't advise people leave easily nickable items like phones, ipods etc lying around unattended.

Q. Can I Smoke Indoors?
A. No, the entire building is a no smoking zone. If you want to smoke you'll need to go outside.
Up

Q. Can I Bring Alcohol and Drink at my PC?
A. As part of our agreement with the buildings owners we ask people to keep alcoholic drinks discreet. It's fine to drink at your desk but you're responsible for cleaning up any spillages on the floor or other peoples equipment. If the spillage results in any damage then you're liable for the cleaning or replacement cost.

Q. What about Food? Where do I eat?
A. There are pubs, takeaways, restaurants and supermarkets within a short (10mins) drive of the venue. If you're not driving then they'll be plenty of lifts and we usually do some big takeaway orders in the evenings. There's also a kitchen area with microwave, toaster, kettle and sink, plus we'll provide plates and cutlery for anyone needing them. Make sure you wash them up after you've finished :D
Up

Q. Is there a Sainsburys / Shops etc nearby?
A. Yep, there's local shops and Sainsburys a short drive away (plenty of people will be going there over the weekend if you need transport).
Up

Q. Where Do I Sleep?
A. Pretty much anywhere. There's camping room around the main building alternatively you can sleep in the main room with the PCs or for a more peaceful night sleep there are a couple of smaller side rooms. A sleeping mat and sleeping bag are highly recommended. If you're driving and have a particularly comfy car then the car park is well away from the main road.
Up

Q. Where can I Park my Car?
A. there's a large car park right in front of the main building
Up

Q. Can I get there by train?
A. Yes. Rugby is a mainline station and only short distance from the LAN. Let us know in advance if you're coming by train and we'll try and arrange for someone to pick you up.
Up

Q. Is MMLan a business?
A. No, it's a community event. Everyone gives their time for free to organise it and any profit is reinvested in future Lan events or used to support the wider MM community.
